ABout Me
Hi, I’m Jake Romer — a senior at Wake Forest University studying Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics. Throughout my young professional and personal life, technology has always stood out to me and sparked my interest. The endless possibilities to be creative and think of innovative solutions to problems is something I have strived to incorporate into my life everyday. Lately, I’ve been especially fascinated by artificial intelligence and have taken the initiative to explore it further, earning certifications on my own to deepen my understanding. I would love to be able to really grasp and understand this tech in the future.
I have spread my horizons vastly throughout all types of tech fields so far, searching for what really drives me to be creative. In the summer of 2024, I first started my journey through data analytics. I interned for Sumrick Builders in Long Island, and here I developed code through java to analyze and create projections for the future of this company. I imported large data sets and transformed them to weekly updated graphs to convey what the CEO and CFO want the employees to strive for in the future.
After learning about the data analytics field, I wanted to explore something a little different. I spent a semester in Copenhagen studying game development, a field rooted in creativity. During that time, I worked with a group of international students to develop a 2D horror game using Unity and C#. The project emphasized designing game mechanics, implementing animations, and integrating libraries that enabled AI-driven player tracking. Here I learned how to work with a team in a fast moving environment and I learned much about game development.
Moving from here, I shifted my focus to software engineering. During the semester, a group of six classmates and I set out to redesign Wake Forest’s course requirements page. Using Jira and Agile methodologies, we collaborated throughout the development process to build a more user-friendly and functional site. We designed and implemented a custom database to support the site’s structure and content, and by the end of the project, we delivered a strong and well-organized platform.
I take pride in everything I do and always aim to give my best, no matter the challenge. This mindset has truly shaped who I am. I constantly seek opportunities to step outside of my comfort zone because I believe that’s where real growth happens. These values have guided my life so far, and I look forward to practicing these and learning new ones that will help me advance my personal and professional goals.
